George "Snoozy" Jones to be Honored
Trinity baseball coach Ken Whittle and George "Snoozy" Jones, with a long history at Sidney Lanier, are among a group of 12 that will be inducted March 19 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center.
Both Whittle and Jones graduated from Huntingdon.
Whittle has a 570-294 record and three state championships since taking over as Trinity's baseball coach in 1981. He's also an assistant football coach.
Jones graduated from Lanier in 1953 and worked at the school from 1961-69. With Jones as a track and field coach, the Poets won a cross country state championship and both an indoor and outdoor track title. He was also an assistant coach on five state championship football teams and four state championship basketball teams.Jones helped create the Central Alabama Officials Association and currently lives in Birmingham.
